The Buffalo Bills have done plenty of work evaluating prospects ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.
In addition to scouting throughout the year, Buffalo met with prospects at the combine and during their pro days. Pre-draft visits, private workouts and Zoom meetings may provide the biggest clues of what is to come in the draft.
Since taking over as general manager of the Bills, Brandon Beane has selected multiple players who have come on pre-draft visits or held private workouts with the team. Josh Allen, Tremaine Edmunds, Ed Oliver, James Cook, Dawson Knox and O’Cyrus Torrence were all pre-draft visitors. Private workouts and Zooms have also been valuable to the team in regard to their selections.
This year, 23 known pre-draft visits have been reported along with multiple private workouts and Zooms. What important clues can be learned from this year’s list? Here is our list of things to look for from the Bills in this year’s draft.
Expect a cornerback to be selected in the first two rounds
Despite bringing Tre’Davious White and Dane Jackson back to the team, cornerback appears to be a priority with one of the team’s three picks in the first two rounds.
Buffalo’s pre-draft visitors included Trey Amos, Maxwell Hairston Jr., Shavon Revel Jr., Benjamin Morrison, Jacob Parrish and Darien Porter. Amos and Hairston are both realistic options for the team at pick 30, while the rest of the bunch are projected to be selected in the second round of the draft.
By bringing this group in for pre-draft visits, Buffalo was able to get to know the prospects better and evaluate how well some of the players are recovering from injuries (Revel, Morrison).
Buffalo seems serious about finding a prospect who can start across from Christian Benford sooner rather than later.
The same can be said for defensive tackle
Buffalo hasn’t been linked to popular mock draft selections like Kenneth Grant or Derrick Harmon, but they have done extensive research on defensive tackles in this draft class.
Tyleik Williams, projected to be a late-first to early-second round pick, made a pre-draft visit with the Bills. Prospects projected to be taken on day two of the draft such as Deone Walker, T.J. Sanders, Ty Robinson, Omarr Norman-Lott also visited One Bills Drive.
In addition to the list above, Buffalo did extensive research on Florida State defensive tackle Joshua Farmer. He is another player projected to be selected on day two of the draft.
Look for a defensive tackle to come off the board early for Buffalo. A double-dip at the position is also possible.
A need for speed at WR
You have to wonder if offensive coordinator Joe Brady told Brandon Beane that he needs a wide receiver with speed for his offense. One look at Buffalo’s meeting tracker and it’s apparent that speed is a priority for the team. Here’s a look at the 40-times for prospects that Buffalo met with during the pre-draft process:
- Tory Horton (4.41)
- Jalen Royals (4.4)
- Arian Smith (4.36)
- Isaac TeSlaa (4.43)
- KeAndre Lambert-Smith (4.37)
- Isaiah Bond (4.35)
- Dont’e Thornton (4.3)
- Tai Felton (4.37)
- Jordan Watkins (4.37)
- Jaylin Lane (4.34)
None of the prospects above are expected to go on night one of the draft, but Buffalo seems ready to add speed to their wide receiver room later in the draft.
Linebacker on radar in day 3
Matt Milano is entering the final year of his contract with Buffalo after reworking his contract with the team. Buffalo has Terrel Bernard locked down at one spot, but could be looking at some potential competition for Dorian Williams down the line.
Chris “Pooh” Paul Jr. is one prospect that the team did plenty of work on (Private workout, Zooms). Paul could be selected late on day two or early on day three. Another prospect to monitor is Buffalo LB Shaun Dolac. Dolac’s pro day and impressive workout at Buffalo’s local pro day could have him firmly on their radar as early as Round 5 of the draft.
Other prospects that Buffalo talked to during the pre-draft process included Cal LB Teddye Buchanan and Memphis’ Chandler Martin. Buchanan is projected to be selected in Rounds 5-6 while Martin is listed as a Round 7-Preferred Free Agent.
Plenty of due diligence on Day 1-Day 2 EDGE rushers
Buffalo hosted multiple edge rushers on pre-draft visits.
The biggest name on the list was Shemar Stewart. Stewart has been projected as high as a top-15 pick in the draft due to his athleticism. The Texas A&M pass-rusher recorded a 10.0 Relative Athletic Score (RAS), the highest you can score based on athletic testing at the combine. The only issue with Stewart is his athleticism did not translate to production on the field. In three seasons at Texas A&M, Stewart recorded 4.5 sacks. Teams interested in Stewart are banking on his traits to help him develop into a pass-rush force in the league.
Stewart was the only day one prospect that Buffalo hosted, but a few day-two options passed through Orchard Park. Pre-draft visitors Nic Scourton, Bradyn Swinson and Femi Oladejo are all projected as day two picks in the draft.
Texas’ Barryn Sorrell, another prospect projected to be selected on day two, had a private workout with the team.
One final player to watch is Arkansas’ Landon Jackson. Buffalo talked with Jackson multiple times during the pre-draft process.
