OLEAN — The League of Women Voters of Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties has been honored as one of 37 ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge champion award winners for supporting nonpartisan student voter engagement during the 2024 election.
On Wednesday, April 9, ALL IN recognized students, faculty and staff, presidents, athletic coaches, partner organizations and election officials for their exemplary leadership in advancing nonpartisan student civic engagement.
“We are more than proud to have been nominated and chosen for our nonpartisan efforts at local colleges and universities in our two New York county areas as well as in neighboring Bradford, Pennsylvania,” said Margie McIntosh, President of the League of Women Voters of Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties (LWVCAC).
McIntosh said the LWVCAC was nominated by Cyan Corwine, Director of Global Engagement and Civic Wellbeing at Alfred State College.
From civic learning to voter participation, the recognized leaders empower students to become lifelong participants in our democracy. ALL IN supports more than 1,020 campuses nationally to make nonpartisan civic engagement an ongoing part of campus life.
“This honor puts us in good company with two other local Leagues from New York state, one from Florida, three from Ohio and one from Virginia also being awarded this honor,” McIntosh said. “We value our collaborative partnerships with institutions of higher learning and thank them for all of their efforts to inform and engage young citizens.”
“Despite long lines and an increase in restrictive voting laws, college students did not sleep in on Election Day 2024,” said Jen Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “They were determined to make their voices heard in 2024.”
With 100,000 local elections happening across the country in 2025, Domagal-Goldman said ALL IN campuses continue to ensure that every student has the information they need to cast their ballot.
“The award winners recognized today lead by example, making nonpartisan voter participation a core part of campus life,” she added.
